FURNITURE HISTORYFrom the earliest of times, man has sought to invent things to make his life easier. From the dawn of recorded history, man has built and used furniture. Furniture was first used in the middle-east and Mediterranean areas.
The Egyptians produce fine furniture, created some of the world first functional furniture. Crude by today standards this furniture was designed to make life easier and it was quite successful.
MODERN FURNITURE
Modern furniture design began in the technology revolution of the 20th century. Although there are several styles of modern furniture, such as art deco, mid-century or industrial, all modern furnitures shares certain characerisctics. Function, simplicity, originality, longevity, beauty, and quality are the similarity of each and other modern furniture.
CHINESE 
Many items of ancient Chinese furniture have also been preserved, since Chinese civilization has continued uninterrupted for thousand of years, and works of art have been treasured through the centuries.
EGYPTIAN & GRAECO ROMAN
Although surviving Egyptian furniture, Greek furniture and Roman furniture is rare, a lot of information is available regarding the ancient design of homes and furniture in these cultures. Ancient Egyptian art, Greek art, and ancient Roman art, artifacts and literature are plentiful.
CLASSICAL REVIVAL
Greek, Roman and Egyptian decor was the inspiration for the neoclassical furniture styles popular in Europe and America in the 18th and 19th centuries particularly the neoclassical furniture of the late Georgian era in England.
ASIAN FURNITURE HISTORY
Traditional Japanese Furniture is well known for its minimalist style, extensive use of wood, high quality craftmanship and reliance on the wood grain instead of paintng or thick lacquer.
Chinese furniture is traditionally better known for more ornate pieces. The use of uncarved wood and bamboo and the use of heavy lacquers are well known Chinese styles.
EGYPT FURNITURE
Egyptians used headrests made of stone, ivory or wood, instead of pillows for sleeping on. They were at times decorated with images of Bes and other gods, seemingly in an attempt to protect the sleeper from evil.
Houses were mostly sparsely furnished. Egyptian home decor was very elaborate. Colored ceilings, wall paintings, carvings, hangings, inscrptions and tiled floors were the background to ornate furniture and ornaments. Gold, blue, black, red and orange were popular colors in Egyptian room decor.
GREEK FURNITURE OVERVIEW
Early Greek furniture was largely influenced from furniture crafted by the Egyptians. Paintings created during that era depict furniture as unbending and rectangular.
Furniture found during the classical Greek era differed little from that of early Greek furniture. There were however some slight changes as the wealthier tried to outdo one another by creating more decorated and fancier Thronos.
ROMAN FURNITURE WAS INFLUENCED BY GTREEK FURNITURE
The styles and types of furniture created by the Romans were similar to those developed by the Greeks. However, the Romans made greater use of bronze, silver, gold, and marble when constructing their furniture. The Roman designs also tended to be more complex and practical.
RENAISSANCE FURNITURE INFORMATION
Furniture started to have fewer jewels or stones embedded into its borders. Rather banding, paneling, and carving were the primary forms of ornamentation. The people of this period created beautiful furniture using an artistic approach that was not explorwd by past generations.
